GSS CrossFit's On-Ramp Program is a four week program designed to familiarize beginners of all ability levels with CrossFit Fundamentals and allow a progression introduction into our group classes.  New athletes will be introduced to the movements and methodologies of CrossFit in a group class atmosphere focusing on mechanics as we gradually ramp the intensity.  At the end of every session there is a workout of the day (WOD) that incorporates new skills and gets progressively more challenging.

Tuesday February 02, 20102010 Shamrock Marathon Team Travis

 “If not me, then who?”

 Travis Manion went to the Naval Academy GSS' Jason Fernandez. After graduation Travis was commissioned into the USMC. His first assignment was to the 1st Recon Bat, 1st Marine Div, I Marine Expeditionary Force Camp. Travis returned from his first deployment in Iraq, March of 2006. In December of 2006, Travis deployed back to Iraq to be part of the Military Transition Team in Fallujah. During a patrol mission on April 29, 2007, Travis was killed by enemy sniper fire in Al Anbar Province, IZ while fighting courageously to defend against an enemy ambush.

Travis was asked before he left for Iraq why he had to go and became known for his response, "If not me, then who".   He always placed others before himself and helping those in need was something that came very easily for him.   In keeping the spirit of his selfness nature alive the Travis Manion Foundation was established.

The mission of the Foundation is to assist the families of Fallen Heroes and our wounded Veterans. "We will emphasize the service to community and country exemplified by these Fallen Heroes and Veterans. We will help instill the strength of mind and body that will foster a generation of future leaders in the spirit of the Fallen."

Team Travis is running in honor of Travis and to raise money to further the efforts of the foundation.  Please help all of the GSS CrossFitters running on Team Travis to meet their goals.

GSS CrossFit Memeber's Bring a Friend Fridays

She is so-o cute...but we want you to bring more than your furry friends.  We are looking for the two-legged kind!  For the month of February, GSS CrossFit members are welcome to bring friends, co-workers, spouses, etc on Fridays for either the 5:30 or 6:30 class.  They will be able to participate in their very own WOD while you work on yours.  We promise to be nice to them.  If you have somebody who is interested, but cannot make it on any of the Fridays in February let us know and we will work to get them in.    

If you are interested, please let any of the trainers know!
